This simple recipe of French bread buns is kid friendly, super delicious and you can enjoy it with anything – soup, jam, butter, by itself – you name it.
Mix 1 1/2 cups warm water (microwave on 30-40 seconds if needed), 1 tbsp active dry yeast and 1 tbsp granulated sugar – set aside for about 10 minutes to rest and rise.
In a large bowl, combine 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour, 1 tsp salt, 2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil and the rested yeast mixture. Stir in remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition. Turn out dough onto floured surface and knead until elastic and smooth. Lightly oil large bowl, place dough in and cover with clean cloth; set aside for 1 hour to rise in room temp.
Deflate the dough and turn out onto floured surface. Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces. Make round balls. Place onto a baking sheet with parchment paper 2” apart (you don’t need to oil parchment paper). Again, cover with clean cloth and let rise for about 40 minutes at room temperature until doubled. Preheat oven to 400°F.Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden. Keep the French bread buns in a cloth until cooled and enjoy while fresh or refrigerate in Ziploc bag when cooled for up to a week. Enjoy!!!
