This simple recipe of French Bread Buns is one of my favorite breads I make at home. Very simple to make, super delicious and you can enjoy it with anything – soup, jam, butter, by itself – you name it. Few months ago I was trying to come up with a recipe of bread that is kids friendly, and it led me here. My 3-yr-old loves this; every time as soon as I take it out, she would eat 3-4 of these buns without anything on a side and these are not that small in size lol … yes these are THAT good 🙂 just a perfect size. I shared a recipe with my sisters too – I think this is becoming another staple recipe in our family. I hope this recipe becomes one of your favorites too :).

French Bread Buns Ingredients:

  • All-purpose flour (might need less)
  • Active dry yeast
  • Granulated sugar
  • Fine salt
  • Warm water
  • Extra-virgin olive oil

1. Mix 1 1/2 cups warm water (microwave on 30-40 seconds if needed), 1 tbsp active dry yeast and 1 tbsp granulated sugar – set aside for about 10 minutes to rest and rise.

2. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour, 1 tsp salt, 2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil and the rested yeast mixture. Stir in remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition. Turn out dough onto floured surface and knead until elastic and smooth. Lightly oil large bowl, place dough in and cover with clean cloth; set aside for 1 hour to rise in room temp.

Rolling Bread Buns:

3. Deflate the dough and turn out onto floured surface. Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces. Make round balls. Place onto a baking sheet with parchment paper 2” apart (you don’t need to oil parchment paper). Again, cover with clean cloth and let rise for about 40 minutes at room temperature until doubled. Preheat oven to 400°F. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden. Keep the French bread buns in a cloth while enjoying these to keep these soft or refrigerate in Ziploc bag when cooled for up to a week. Enjoy!!!
